GA 204 Spur

Georgia Route 204 Spur is a 5-6 mile strip of road which hooks Abercorn Street to Skidaway Island. It travels along four different roads to get to its destination. As of August 2006, it is where the southern terminus of the Harry Truman Parkway is located. This page details the route running from north to south.

Montgomery Cross Road

The route begins at the Abercorn Street-Montgomery Cross Road intersection. For photos of this portion of the route, go to the Montgomery Cross Road page.

Waters Avenue

Waters Avenue only runs another 1/3 of a mile south before it ends on Whitfield Avenue, but unlike the northern un-routed part of Whitfield Avenue, Waters Avenue is a 4-laned road.

Upon entering Thunderbolt, Waters Avenue ends. The route is picked up by Whitfield Avenue and continues south.

Whitfield Avenue

Whitfield Avenue continues southbound, passing by some neighborhoods.

Here the road widens into four lanes, preparing for the Truman Parkway exit.

Here's the exit. On the right, there's a large mound of dirt which is for the planned continuation of the parkway back to Abercorn Street.

Up on that same mound, an American flag waves.

And almost as quickly as it started, the road goes back to 2 lanes. Not far down the road, the Diamond Causeway begins, and the spur route takes a left hook onto it. Whitfield Avenue heads towards more neighborhoods.

Diamond Causeway

The Diamond Causeway, until arriving on Skidaway Island, is a lone road with no neighborhoods, and very few intersections. The one traffic light intersection in reaches is with Ferguson Avenue.

Nothing on the right, nothing on the left.

The next stop is Skidaway Island. Here the route crosses the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway and leaves the Isle of Hope.

Signs of civilization return as the Diamond Causeway enters the shopping districts of Skidaway Island.

This intersection marks the southern terminus of Georgia Road 204 Spur. There used to be a shield marking the end of the route, but it was removed in 2005. This intersection is quadriplexed with four other roads, which all provide entrances to The Landings. This part of the island is considerably wealthy, and has homes which are located farther away from the road.
